Happy Friday! Let’s kick off the weekend with wardrobe talk. We’re talking; simple, efficient, smart and intentional. Say hello to a CAPSULE WARDROBE.

"What is a capsule wardrobe? Capsule wardrobe is just a trendy-cool name for a small collection of useful clothing that you love that changes with each season.

**word association: minimalism, streamlining, organization, resourcefulness, mindfulness, simplifying, and my personal favorite – easy**” -PinchofYum Blog

Just as a time capsule is timeless so will your wardrobe be. Creating a capsule wardrobe is to help you make smart purchases, get ready easier in the morning and ultimately help you find your signature style. Every single day is a struggle, staring at the same pieces that a) don’t match with nearly anything else in my closet or b) pieces I got over in a week after purchasing. I stare at a closet full of clothes and have nothing to wear! Who can relate? Probably most of you.

I say the difference between a closet and a wardrobe is the purpose behind pieces. Have you collected a bunch of purchases hoping they all match one way or another or do you have thought out pieces you know will go with almost anything else you have? There are truly so many different steps to take (and time) to create your perfect closet but I’ll give you the basics and key steps and then dig deeper another day. Let’s get started.

What is your lifestyle?

What do you do everyday? Be honest with yourself. I know most of us want to dress like Blair Waldorf or Gigi Hadid everyday but it may not fit our lifestyle. Think about where you go to school, where you work, what you do when you’re “off-duty”, etc? Then you can think about a special occasion that occurs on occasion, factor that into your wardrobe.

For me I’ll go ahead and choose 3 main “activities” I do. I work at a day-to-day job, I do photoshoots and have meetings and then I lounge, work from home and hang out with friends (the third is a 3-in-1 look).

What is your color palette?

This is fun to pick out and also really smart. If you stick to your palette while shopping it will help curate your perfect wardrobe and also help minimize impulse buys. We all know we have them. These diagrams are to help you choose what colors you wear most often and then organize what your main color schemes are so when you go to pick out an outfit you aren’t scrambling through clothes that don’t match.

For me my “neutral” colors would actually carry into my main colors. Not mad about it, I love basics.

Neutrals: Black + White
Main: Grey + Navy + White
Accents: Forest green, Nude, Pastel pink, Mauve (Maybe a red (; ... )

Get the Basics Down.

I love this diagram. It explains what you will need in your closet as a fundamental beginning. It helps minimize all the clutter and when you have solid yet fewer pieces to look at it makes the process a lot easier each day. I’m not saying you have to be as neutral as my wardrobe but find pieces you can truly make multiple outfits with. Once you have your basics down then make an additional section to your closet for special events or pieces that are truly special.

Start Curating Your Dream Wardrobe!

Once you get these few steps down it will help direct your next purchases for your wardrobe. Many people like to make purging their closet step one but I feel like you can set what you own aside for now. What I do highly recommend is to go through everything you own and start curating your wardrobe with what you have. This way once you full discover your most important lifestyles, colors and basics then you can build your wardrobe on what you own!
